An impression happens when your company name or brand is displayed for the Web user. This can happen in many ways, but is most often seen in Google search results. Impressions can be tracked in Google Anlaytics using Webmaster Tools. We can get an idea of the total number of searches and ad displays online, but we can’t measure the direct results unless the user clicks on the link.

Online impressions are the new mass advertising and are very important because of the massive amount of impressions generated online. This also goes beyond Web searches into social media, blogs, content distribution and much more. Impressions are a form of silent branding and advertising that should be considered in your online marketing efforts. You can generally control what users see through meta descriptions, title tags, blog titles, social media postings and more. Keep this in mind as you post content and develop search engine marketing strategies.
