The Internet is Communication

The Waldo Canyon Fire on June 24, 2012

Communication and Content is the Internet

A huge wildfire is burning just West of my home town of Colorado Springs this weekend. The smoke and intensity of the Waldo Canyon fire are amazing. Just a few years ago there would not have been much to know about this fire, other than what you can see with your eyes or what is reported on TV news. Many times what is being reported on TV is repeated content with very little new information. The Internet has changed this reporting process as thousands of people post and comment on the fire and what is happening. A big part of what the media is reporting on TV and on their Websites is being posted by people that are reporting firsthand from their smart phones.

Such is the power of the Internet in regards to content distribution, news and communication in general. Watch this trend and learn as you think about your options for communicating online.

Otherwise, let’s hope everyone is safe and the fire dies soon!

Go to Gazette.com and Colorado Springs’ local news Websites to see how the public is reporting on this fire. If you have fiends in Colorado Springs, visit their Facebook page to learn more.
