Creating the Best Short Video – The Future of Digital Marketing

In our day and age where everyone has a smartphone capable of shooting quality video, the “Velfie” (video + selfie) is one of the best tools to ensure engagement and the future of digital marketing strategy. We are covering best practices for you, so you can get started filming today!

  • When it comes to lighting and background, the focus should always be YOU! Whether you have a cluttered background, a plain background, or you are filming outdoors, make sure you adjust the lighting and focus so you are what stands out. In the morning natural light is best and in the dark use a sharp, warm, yellow light to enhance your features. Another quick tip is sound, make sure the background of your video doesn’t detract from what you are saying!
  • Equipment is easy and affordable and can change the quality of your video. A selfie stick, tripod or even a wall can make all the difference in the stability and professional quality of your video.
  • Let’s talk landscape portrait and the dreaded zoom. Amateur videos use portrait mode instead of the preferred landscape which gives your viewers more to look at and eliminates the black bars on the side. Keep in mind you have to physically get closer to what you are filming or get ready for zoom pixilation that ruins your shot!
  • What type of video are you creating? Explainer, how-to, product, brand awareness? It’s important to have a plan before you start filming.
  • Now for editing – if you are going to add words make sure they appear on the screen for at least 5 seconds, and keep the max length of your video to no more than 10 minutes. Leave your audience engaged and wanting more!
  • Dress for success and have fun! Avoid jewelry that makes noise or large print patterns that can detract from you and your message. Your audience wants a sincere and authentic connection with you, so don’t force it. Speak as you would to a friend and practice if it helps beforehand.
