Strategic Digital Marketing Trends for 2013

In this Internet marketing podcast, Glenn and Tom talk about coming trends in Web marketing for 2013. Listen to this podcast to learn what you can expect from Google, content marketing, social media and more in 2013.

1. 2013 is the Year of Content

Website marketers at all levels will develop and implement content marketing strategies that go beyond blogs and social media.

2. Google gets Deep

Google+ will continue to grow and integrate deeply with Google’s suite of online products. It will challenge LinkedIn and Facebook in social media and drive strong Google search results. Google will also drive more mobile marketing into Google+ and Google maps.

3.  Social Media Expands and Niches Develop

Social media has developed incredibly fast in depth, but not so much in width, as Facebook dominates much of social media’s volume. That will change as more niche social media sites grow in usage to better meet the needs of specific groups.

4.  Facebook Declines

Facebook does not have a sound business model. Either Facebook ads will continue to be more intrusive or users will start using other targeted social networks to connect.

5.  Apple Becomes a Corporate Citizen

The Apple “wow” factor will be missed in 2013. Look to Apple to do more good and find other ways to drive market growth. Perhaps a dividend for stock holders and sale prices on older product models to share a bit of the Apple incredible wealth.

6.  Mobile Explosion Continues

Many Websites now receive 25% or more of their traffic from mobile devices. This will grow as the laptop and tablet start to merge and hybrid computers are developed.

7. Screens and Laptops Evolve

Devices are coming that merge a laptop with a tablet. This meets user needs for mobility and easy, organized input, which is lacking in a tablet.

The key action items from this podcast:

  • Develop a content strategy for 2013.
  • Set-up a Google+ account and research Google’s suite of products.
  • Explore developing your own social media Website for your target market.
  • Build and monitor a mobile Website.
  • Explore the use of tablets and laptop hybrids to improve productivity.
