The Three Guiding Principles of Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

SEO can be very intimidating to most marketing professionals. There is so much information on the Internet about SEO and it can be a challenge to know where to start. These three guidelines of proper SEO strategy can help and they form the foundation for SEO efforts to drive targeted traffic and conversions.

1. SEO Tags and Coding

This is the most important of SEO guidelines. The site must be coded properly for SEO. This includes title tags, meta descriptions, URLs, alt tags and other important SEO coding basics. These are essential to get found in Google and other search engines. Do keyword research to make sure you are targeting the best terms. Avoid highly competitive terms to carve out your keyword niche.

2. Content

Write great content that your target market wants to read and do it on a regular basis. Code every unique content page for SEO. Google is looking for great content to drive search engine results.

3. Links

Getting links to your Website from other important Websites will drive higher rankings from Google. This is step three in the process and should happen after the site is fully coded for SEO and has great content added on a regular basis. The secret to getting links to your site is to have something that is worth linking. Also, it is best to contact the site to ask for permission and build a relationship with the site owners and managers.
